Last few tickets remain for SHAFF 2013
Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, with support from Sheffield-based Accelerate, is once again presenting a “Running Expert Night”…
SHAFF event release
Last year this expert night drew a capacity crowd resulting in standing room only and this year the event looks stronger than ever so early ticket booking is recommended.
Accelerate, has a rapidly growing reputation for running expertise far beyond that of the ordinary retailer, has drawn together a number of international-level running experts from the local area to share their training and running tips with you: whether you’re a first time runner, a seasoned half-marathoner or ultra-runner.
The talks will be interspersed with comment from Sports Scientist & Exercise Physiologist, Adela Carter, who will explain how different aspects of sports science can help the everyday athlete; and Stuart Hale, national level running coach and contributor to a number of running magazines, who will provide guidance on how to take the sports science principles, combine them with the knowledge from the athletes to develop a training plan to work for you.
The Expert Speakers
- Jason Ward, who has represented Great Britain and winner of Sheffield Half Marathon. Jason will explains how he trains what it took to represent Great Britain and how this can benefit all runners
- Stuart Bond, ranked nationally for fell running and holds many of the local records. Stuart has recently re-structured his training following a long-term injury and will explain how changing your training pattern based on your body can lead to greater benefits.
Top UK fell man Stuart Bond
- Nicky Spinks, holder of the ladies record for the greatest number of Lakeland Fells climbed in 24 hours and ladies Bob Graham record holder (running over 74 miles, 42 peaks, 28,500ft of ascent in under 24 hours). Nicky will share how planning and preparation is key to her success.
- Darryl Watton, finisher of the notorious Marathon des Sables – a 151 mile race that takes places over 6 days in the Sahara Desert. Darryl finished 35th. He will talk about training for endurance and extreme conditions.
Stuart Hale, Accelerate, commented:
“It’s great to be able to support ShAFF again this year. This year we hope to attract a good mix of new runners and seasoned athletes – running is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports and the knowledge shared on Expert Night will help people train effectively in a way that works for them”
