2012, the year Skyrunning arrived
As followers of this site will know, we have been supporting skyrunning and the Skyrunner® World Series for 4 years now, but this year has been different. As this excellent article portrays, the sport has moved up a few notches in 2012.
Of course this is testimony to the huge amount of work and solid foundation building that Lauri Van Houten and Marino Giacometti have been laying down for 20 years, and now that the final few ingredients of top US talent and a new blast of online media coverage have been added to the mix, skyrunning is really ready to fly.
“Looking back over the 2012 skyrunning season it was, to say the least, an intensive year. It was a year of major transition from the past format of main races and trials, to the introduction of the Ultra distance and separate circuits. The transition was complicated and not without difficulties but it paved the way for a completely revised 2013 format.”
Look out next week for announcements on the 2013 plans and calendar via the ISF site.
