National treasures
With our appetite for the next big thing when it comes to trail or mountain running and racing, it is easy to sometimes forget what we already have. The National Trails could be seen as one such resource which we may have overlooked, as 2500 miles of ‘ready made’ trails…
The beauty of this national network is that waymarkers, landmarks and towns and villages all make for natural navigation markers and allow you to enjoy vistas and trails without having to worry (too much!) about your route. The website is a great tool too, with micro-sites on all of the major routes across the country.
National Trails are long distance routes for walking, cycling and horse riding through the finest landscapes in England and Wales. In Scotland the equivalent trails are called long distance routes.
Of course Trail Blaze is one such running company that has tapped into these stunning trails enabling runners to challenge themselves on such trails as Offa’s Dyke and the Pennine Way. However, if your voyage of discovery is more about freedom then there are trails and paths which can be chosen at will, from a variety of lengths and locations.
So if you are looking to broaden your horizons a little this summer you could do worse than use this great tool, to find yourself a challenge or simply enjoy a weekend jaunt on our network of national trails…
