The last few years has seen the flagship international XC on these shores become an event very much dominated by the East Africans. Next year will see stronger fields than ever, but also an added emphasis on international team racing…

For 2011 the format of the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country hopes to ensure that domestic competition enjoys a platform that not only develops home talent, but also pleases and excites the gathered crowds that frequent this great XC international.

“The new programme is designed to host what should be a closely fought duel between the teams involved,” said Andy Caine, the event project manager. Caine said the quality of overseas runners, which has seen Olympic and World champions such as Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba star in previous years, will be maintained, with big signings to be announced shortly.
