2013 entries set to open for Trail Marathon Wales
Saturday the 1st of September sees the opening of entries for the second running of Trail Marathon Wales, and organisers aren’t expecting places to last long…
With 400 marathon and 500 half marathon places up for grabs the event will be home to over 1000 trail runners in 2013, as a new Friday evening trail ‘taster race’ is also planned, along with a Friday evening pre-race party, film exhibition and guest Q and A sessions.
The 2012 event was an overwhelming success, with over 700 runners embarking on what was later described by one runner as “Brutal, epic, tough, fantastic and fabulous all at the same time. This race will become a ‘classic’ with a cult following.” This year’s races were set in the world-renowned MTB heartland that is Coed y Brenin.

The centre is set in the Snowdonia National Park, one of most famous mountain biking areas in the UK – if not the world – and with its superb facilities and visitor friendly accessibility the centre play perfect host to this exciting trail running event.
Taking place on the 22nd of June 2013, Trail Marathon Wales will have full and half marathon race route option in the stunning trails and tracks of Coed y Brenin Forest Park, taking in fully marked trail single track, forest roads and paths in some of the most stunning forestry and heathland in the UK.
Event organiser Matt Ward states:
“We are really excited to be continuing with the event for a second year. We pretty much knew within hours of the inaugural race finishing that we simply had to do a second event, and probably for many years to come. Trail running is an ever growing sport, and to have an event in this location is very special.
“Having a full and half distance marathons means that runners of all standards can come and enjoy the event, and we are sure that this location and environment added to the huge success of the 2012 Trail Marathon Wales event.

“Our plans are in full swing for 2013 with regard to the route. We will have a team of 4 working on the 2013 courses, including Dafydd and Sian Roberts, so runners can expect a few twists and turns and a classic race route once again. We have some exciting plans for the whole weekend, with a schedule of events for the Friday evening and the Saturday, and over the coming months we will be releasing details on event partners, attractions and some unique and sustainable features of the race.
“We will have a brand new website live in September too, which will offer runners greater access to race info, news and video and photo galleries.
“We are totally committed to using as much local resource as possible, in terms of suppliers and manpower, in addition to this it is an absolute goal of ours to make to event sustainable, have a low environmental impact and hope to be around for years to come to benefit the local economy and communities”.
