The Wasdale start

Deemed ‘the hardest’ by many a seasoned fell runner, it’s the Wasdale race this Saturday. A 21 mile trip which takes in over 9000ft of ascent, climbing Great Gable, the Esk Hause pass and Scafell Pike along the way…

To see just how hard this one is check out Andy Holden’s 2009 Wasdale film – now that looks hard! 2011 British Fell Champ Morgan Donnelly and women’s winner at last weekend’s Arrochar Alps Jasmin Paris are amongst the 151 pre-entries. The route deatils are here with racing getting underway at 11am.

The leaders early on at Holme Moss

Other races worth a punt this weekend are the high quality Holme Moss race in the Peak District, the Pen y Fan race in Brecon, South Wales, with the Fan y Big Horseshoe on the Sunday.

Lots of racing up in Scotland this weekend too with the Alva Games with Kenny Stuart’s course record now over 30 years old! Creag Choinnich is part of a weekend of races in Braemar and the Glamaig Hill Race on the Isle of Skye looks like a good one.

So pack your kit properly for those changeable conditions and enjoy!
