Jebby back in business at Duddon
Rob Jebb at Duddon
Rob Jebb put the cat amongst the pigeons yesterday as he won Rd3 of the 2011 English Fell Champs at a baking Duddon Valley Fell Race. By winning the race he (and second placed Ben Abdelnoor) have blown the championship wide open…
With the 2011 series now half way through, it is anybody’s title with Jebb, Abdelnoor, Rob Hope and Lloyd Taggart (not present at Duddon) and Borrowdale’s Chris Steele (6th at Duddon) all in the running.
As far as the race goes it was back to old ways for Jebb, as he took command of the race and won by almost 2 minutes in 2:43:54, from the vastly-improved Abdelnoor (2:45:32). The Ambleside man adds the runner-up spot to his excellent 3rd place at this year’s 3 Peaks, and is obviously full of confidence as the season really hots-up. Fell legend Ian Holmes still shows no signs of slowing up as he took a super third place, winning the MV40 and MV45 into the bargain!
Lauren Jeska
In the women’s race Lauren Jeska and Helen Fines renewed their battle, and went down to the wire, with (amazingly) just a handful of seconds separating the two at the finish. Jeska took the win in 3:14:26, a measly 13 seconds up on Fines! The win ensures that Todmordon runner Jeska stays out front in the title race, with Fines snapping at her heels. Dark Peak’s Judith Jepson was third.
