Cullen bounces back
Mary Cullen
After her despondent weekend in Dublin back in December, Mary Cullen gave Euro champ Hayley Yelling a taste of her own medicine at the Antrim International XC on Saturday. The leading Irish XC runner romped her way to a 31 second gun-to-tape win on the Greenmount course…
Cullen was thrilled to open 2010 on a positive note, and bounce back from the heartbreak of her Dublin disappointment. “I wanted it so badly in Dublin that I think I might just have stepped it too far thinking that more, more, more instead of thinking less is more maybe. You live and learn through these things,” she said.
In the men’s race it was a similar story for the class-act in the field, Kenya’s Mike Kigen won by an easy 51 seconds. However, the racing behind (mainly for domestic supremacy) was highly exciting, and saw England’s Andy Vernon run to a superb second, soundly beating Mexico’s Luis Barrios and UK Euro trial winner Mike Skinner.
