WLDMRC is this weekend...
The 2013 World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships are this weekend, as Poland and Szklarska Poręba is the venue for the 10th staging of the champs, which will see 700 athletes from 22 countries heading out…
The men’s race will see some quality in the form of Marco de Gasperi, 2011 World champion Mitja Kosovelj and 2013 Giir di Mont winner Ionut Zinca toeing the line, with the in-form Brit (and 2011 bronze medalist) Helen Fines amongst the favourites for the women’s race.

It should be a stern challenge with over 2100m of elevation on the 44km route, and should suit some of the other British hopes in the form of Anna Lupton (Eng), Andy Davies (Wales) and Carl Bell (Eng), with Irish runner Brian MacMahon also hoping for a good performance after his excellent 6th place run in 2012 at the Jungfrau event.

UK athletes will be hoping for more medal success following on from the last few years, after England and Scottish success in 2011, and may well get that in the women’s team race.
Welsh and English previews, with team line-ups, now online (still looking for Scottish and Irish teams news – Ed) with news on the Champs and the race via the LOC website here.
