Ben Abdelnoor in action in 2011

Ben ‘The Noor’ Abdelnoor underlined his ‘serious contender’ status in the 2012 English Fell Champs with a great win at the Great Lakes race on Saturday. Conditions were hardly great as tales of serious nav issues, cold and torrential rain were order of the day…

Ben Bardsley leads early on at Great Lakes

The results show some odd positions, with the likes of Carl Bell in 21st and Morgan D (by all accounts) getting a DQ for not going up Scafell Pike!

Considering these factors the head of affairs were very close with a great battle between Abdelnoor (2.48.45), Kim Collison (2.49.11) and Lloyd Taggart (2.49.37), with less than a minute separating them after almost three soggy and tough hours. Ben Bardsley continued his very good 2012 in 4th, with Rhys Findlay-Robinson in 5th.

Lauren Jeska

Lauren Jeska (3.28.38) took the ladies race by two and a half mins or so from Calder Valley’s under 23 runner Holly Page (3.31.04), with team mate Sally Newman (3.52.29) in third. The win cements Jeska’s place at the top of the Championships standing and few would bet against the Todmorden Harrier adding a third straight English crown to the ones she won in 2010 and 2011.

Some lively banter on the FRA forum page with some excellent images by Paul Dobson here.
