This weekend...
On Bwlch Cwmorthin at the 2011 Ras y Moelwyn
With the weather a little more like late winter than Spring this weekend, racing on the hills should be challenging. Befitting really of some nice gnarly races, such as the classic Ras y Moelwyn (celebrating 25 years this year), with its 10 miles and 2800ft of ascent…
For those in Wales there are also the Cribyn, Offars Orror and Ras Mynydd Swtan races, with details on all races on the WFRA page.
Scotland hosts a couple of shortish races in the form of Beinn Ratha, nr Thurso and a Hunters Bog Trot in Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park, which we suspect may take in Arthur’s Seat.
Finally, one of the best is saved until last. The tremendously popular Anniversary Waltz takes place in the Lakes. The 16th edition of this 11 mile and 3600ft classic fell race starts from Newlands just outside of Keswick, taking in Dale Head, Robinson and Catbells. 350 runners embark on the Waltz and a further 120 in the longer and tougher Teenager With Attitude which has almost 7600ft of climb over 15 miles. Entry lists for the TWA here and the Waltz here.
