Hawker wins IAU Athlete of the Year

After pretty much being the outstanding long distance female runner of 2011, Lizzy Hawker has been named the IAU Athlete of the Year by its global member federations, taking over 30% of the vote.
Italy“s Giorgio Calcaterra also easily won the men’s award, taking an even bigger percentage of the overall votes cast.
Both Calcaterra and Hawker had oustanding years. Calcaterra won the 100km World and European Championships in a time of 6:27:32. Hawker won the 24 Hour Commonwealth Championships in a World´s Best Performance of 247.06km. Congratulations to both athletes!
