The start at Kylemore

With 125 starters this was one of the biggest fields assembled for the championships and at the end of 70km just over 1 minute separated Clavery and Canada’s Jason Loutitt. Patrick Bringer of France completed the podium as the Frenchmen easily won the team prize.

It was a diffeent story in the women’s race with Gobert winning handsomely, well over 8 minutes up on pre-race favourite Cecilia Mora from Italy. Great Britain’s Lucy Colquhoun ran brilliantly for bronze. Again it was the French women who were too strong in the women’s team event, taking first, fourth and sixth places.
