It's National time!
Twell - out to capture the National XC title
An excellent preview on this weekend’s English National Cross Country Championships at the famous Roundhay Park in Leeds, by Athletics Weekly’s Steven Mills. This year’s racing should be highly competitive across age groups…
The 134-year-old championships return to Leeds for the first time since 2004 with more than 8000 entries over all age groups. Such is the strength in depth in the junior ranks, the junior women will run separately to the under-17s for the first time and in these categories, entries are up on last year.
During a feature on Steve Vernon a few weeks back, we highlighted the Stockport man’s targeting of the ‘national’ and he should be tough to beat. But namesake Andy will have something to say about that as it will be a battle of the Vernons.

Steph Twell will look to take the women’s title, after making a painful graduation to the senior ranks this winter – the Aldershot athlete needs to underpin her world-class reputation this weekend, or be in fear of becoming a classy junior prospect that didn’t quite step-up.
Racing starts at 11am with the senior men’s race rounding things off at 3pm…
