Everest Marathon is here!
Sanasa
Just hours now until the start of the bi-annual race from Gorak Shep nr. the Everest base camp to the Namche Bazaar. Don’t be deceived by the 6,000ft drop in altitude over the 42km route either, as the last 15km is a brutal roller-coaster…
Anna Frost will start amongst the favourites in the women’s race, her blogs have been well received on MST and news comes to us that she is happy and raring to go.
Cho La Pass
The EM site describes the course in a bit more detail:
Although the course is basically down hill, there are two steep uphill sections. There may be snow and ice on the upper part and there is considerable exposure along much of the route. For this reason the race is only suitable for runners with recent experience of cross country, fell or mountain running and endurance events. Experience of rough terrain is essential and road marathon experience is not sufficient.
Angela Mudge
In 2007 Brit Angela Mudge absolutely smashed the course record (by an amazing 14 minutes), and Frost will no doubt have half an eye on her time of 5:02.
The Everest post-race reports are excellent, and worth waiting for, but we expect a little lag between the race finish tomorrow and full results / reports. However, MST will do it’s best to bring first news of the race in the next couple of days and check out the Sleepmonsters site for updates too…
Namaste!
