Fines excels in the Welsh mist
Helen Fines
Whilst the prestigious Commonwealths were sucking most of the domestic races dry of elite athletes this weekend Calder Valley runner Helen Fines broke a nigh-on 20 year old record at the Llyn y Fan race on Saturday.
The 5.5 mile race starting in Llangadog was shrouded in mist for most of the race, however Fines picked he way through the clag to break Lydia Gould’s record, set in 1990, by almost two minutes – also good enough for 4th overall on the day!
Mynydd Du man Crispin Flower won the men’s race in 47.19.
