World's threatened, Dublin gets ready!
The World XC could be going biennial in 2011
Kenyan newspaper The Standard reports that the World Cross Country Championships could go biennial due to a lack of sponsors. As yet this is not fully confirmed, however this may be no bad thing in our view.
Such is the pressure (not to mention the costs of attending and staging the event) put on a nation and its athletes to focus on this event year after year, that this year very few nations managed to field the full compliment of runners in each event. Additionally, a re-focusing of the frequency may also ensure that all of the very best distance runners are present – surely with the mass of Spring marathons going on too there will some inevitable absences of runners who could challenge for honours at the World XC?
