Top mountain runner passes away
Jon Tvedt
World-class mountain racer Jon Tvedt has died. He perished doing what he lived for – mountain running, whilst out on a training run with his brother Øyvind above his home town of Bergen. Details on the incident relate to exhaustion and cold being the key factors in Tvedt’s death.
There are many humbling stories on sites across the internet, detailing his warmth and generous character, and how he has remained strong and focused in his life even after enduring the death of his wife some ten years ago – the mother of his two daughters and one handicapped son.
One of the most touching tributes comes from a fellow runner Joe G, on his blogsite.
I learned a lot from him and I will miss him greatly. I will always have a memory of Jon Tvedt as he gave me his Norwegian team jersey at this past years World Mountain Running Trophy (2008). I was really looking forward to seeing him again, he was truly a great guy you could talk to all day. He would keep the conversastion interesting thats for sure and he would talk about anything. So, he made it easy to open up and just say what was on your mind. He will be missed greatly and by losing Jon mountain running loses an icon in the sport.
