Nicky guzzles the bubbly!

Going largely under the radar this weekend, long distance specialist Nicky Spinks has updated a 17 year-old record today, by topping an amazing 64 Lakeland peaks in 24 Hours, followed by champagne and curry!

Standing at 62 peaks in 23 hours 17 minutes, the previous Ladies Lakes record had been in place since 1994, and Nicky crested her 64th peak in 23hrs 15 minutes in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Since yet again updating The Fellsman record in May, she had been preparing specifically for an attack on Anne Johnson’s (nee Stentiford) incredible effort, and started her attempt at 3am on Saturday from the village of Stair near Keswick.

Andrew Heading sent us this short description of proceedings:

Just back from the Lakes, and a long, long day and night out! She (Nicky) did superbly, running strongly throughout, with only a few minor stomach issues to contend with due to the heat on Saturday afternoon.

Anne Johnson – record-holder since 1994 – also turned out to offer support during the attempt and then met Nicky at lunchtime at the pub to congratulate her.

She’s promised us a full story as soon as she’s had some kip and recovered a bit – tho things are looking good as she had curry for breakfast :-)

Wow, what an achievement, well done, looking forward to reading about it.

Curry for Breakfast! I have to say I’ve been there a few times…but it was always after a marathon session on the black stuff! ;)
