Orlando Edwards at the UKA Euro Trial race 2011

Today sees many a top UK mountain runner line-up to battle it out for the berths at this year’s European MR Champs, taking place in Turkey in just over a month’s time. Be interesting to see if the likes of Steve Vernon show up, with it being an up and down race…

It’s all entries on the day, with race registration at Sedbergh People’s Hall from 10 a.m., so very difficult to know who will be there moving and shaking. Runners who could and should figure in Sedbergh though include Orlando Edwards, Tom Cornthwaite, Mary Wilkinson, Chris Smith, Lizzie Adams, Adam Osbourne, Nick Swinburn, Sarah Tunstall and Emma Clayton- all part of the very successful World and Euro campaign in 2011.

The selection criteria for the UKA representative team at the European Mountain Running Championships is as follows:

European Championships Selection Policy

UKA intends to select the strongest senior and junior men’s and women’s teams to the European Mountain Running Championships in 2012.

The official trial will be held at Sedbergh on Saturday 2nd June 2012 as part of the McCain Mountain Running Challenge.

GB's Chris Smith starts to heat up in Tirana

The selectors will fill the remaining places (two senior men, two senior women, two junior men and two junior women) based on all known up and down form up to and including the 2nd June 2012.

All athletes who do not intend to compete at Sedbergh and wish to be considered for selection must ensure that they advise UKA Chair of Selectors Sarah Rowell at [email protected] of their situation before the trial.

Selection of all athletes is subject to agreement of the athlete’s racing programme between the trial and the Championships by the Chair of Selectors, Sarah Rowell.
