Rob Hope

After struggling (by his standards) in 2011 with niggles and injury and a steady start to 2012, three-time British Fell Champ Rob Hope retuned to winning ways yesterday as he took a convincing victory – ahead of a quality field – at the Coniston Fell Race...

After a lower back and hip problem over the last few months, Hope showed that he was back on the road to recovery by succesfully coming through Rd1 of the British Champs race in Coledale for a strong 10th place finish a couple of weeks agao.

Yesterday he upped his game to take a great win in 1:09:31 ahead of Lloyd Taggart and Ben Bardsey. With Ian Holmes in 4th and 3 Peaks runner-up Carl Bell in 6th, this was a highly promising effort for Hope and signals a return to form for one of the UK’s top fell runners.

Rob Hope - back in form

Winning the women’s race in excellent fashion was top UK all-rounder Lizzie Adams. Following a super winter campaign which saw the Hallamshire runner run big PBs on the road and storm to such XC runs as 5th in the National, Lizzie showed that perhaps her best surface is fell and trail, taking the race and recording a very fast 1:23, less than three minutes behind Menna Angharad’s 16-year old record.
