Kilian on-route at the WS100

After finishing third in 2010 and vowing to return the a race he describes as ‘mythical’, Kilian Jornet has added the Western States 100 to his amazing array of running achievements…

It is easy to forget that he is still only 23 years old, as the Catalan rewrote ultra trail history again today by becoming the youngest and first non-American to win this great race. 2010 winner Geoff Roes was at the finish in Auburn to congratulate Kilian, after dropping out of the race at around the 50 mile.

US athlete Mike Wolfe was a close second, with Nick Clark third, and 2009 third-placer Jez Bragg in 4th. The winning margins were tiny for such a long distance race, showing how much more competitive ultra racing has become over the last few years.

Provisional mens’ results are here, with reactions and images to follow soon…
