Mike Kigen at Antrim 2010

After his win over the UK’s Andy Vernon in the 2010 edition, Kenya’s Mike Kigen returns to northern Ireland again today to defend his Antrim International XC crown, which he so convincingly won last year…

Vernon will also be back, after his super Edinburgh run a couple of weeks ago, and should once again be pushing Kigen around the Greenmount course.

Round one women’s winner, and convincing winner of the Euro XC trials, Louise Damen will be in action in the womens race, but will come up against some stiff international competition – not to mention the UK’s hottest young endurance talent Charlotte Purdue, whose win in Cardiff last week was nicely added to her Edinburgh 4th place and Euro junior title in December.

With this being an IAAF permit race there are some handsome prizes on offer too, with 2.5 grand going to the respective men’s and women’s winners:

1st place $2500
2nd place $1500
3rd place $1250
4th place $1000
5th place $750
6th place $500

Racing gets underway this afternoon at 1.00pm with the junior races. More great previews on the IAAF site and UKA
