Bezabeh out of Euro Cross for all the wrong reasons

First it was the cyclists, now it seems (if reports are substantiated) Spain’s endurance athletes are under the doping spotlight. Athletics Weekly and many other media outlets are reporting that the darling of Spanish athletics Marta Dominguez has been arrested…
Perhaps more significantly is the name of Alemayehu Bezabeh – in a list of 14 athletes under investigation. This has obviously signaled the withdrawal from this weekend’s Euro Cross by the 2009 champion, and throws a dark cloak over Spanish sport once more. Let’s hope that unlike cycling, long-distance running can recover from this and not have fans doubting any future championship winning performances or world-record breaking runs.
