Time is right for Ricky to step up
21 year-old Teessider Ricky Stevenson hasn’t yet set the world on fire, in world class terms. But the 2009 / 10 XC season has seen Stevenson emerge as one of the UK’s brightest young talents on the country, culminating with his big win at the weekend…
Of course you will never make your fame and fortune on the mud, so luckily an excellent in-depth interview over at Athletics Weekly outlines that the young powerhouse has a long-term vision and plan to become the next-big-thing as far as UK middle and long distance running goes.
Not content with domestic medals, around this time his coach, Steve Shaw, wrote a 10-year plan that culminated with his young charge reaching the pinnacle of world athletics. “We have a 10-year plan which ends with Ricky breaking the world record aged 26,” says Shaw. “You’ve got to think big, after all!”
