Russell tells tales of a muddy Blighty...
Dessaix-Chin in his Belgrave colours
Returning home to his native Australia, after a spell exiled in Britain running for top English club Belgrave Harriers, Russell Dessiax-Chin has written an excellent article on the art of cross-country running – he is obviously pining for the black stuff!
We know that is still Summer here in the UK (well of sorts!) but over in Oz the mud is flowing, as his expansive article in the August edition of Inside Athletics dedicates a whole 5 pages to the diminutive Chin’s exploits on the country in the UK.
Titled ‘Its a mud, mud world – training and racing in the English winter’, it seems that Russell made the 10,000 mile trip to immerse himself in our wonderful winter mud – quite literally. A top performer in Australia, he managed some impressive finishes during the course of the 08/09 XC season and here chronicles his experiences at such races as the Antrim International and ‘the National’ at Parliament Hill – where he managed to race most of it without shoes…
A great read, and in the balmy summer nights reminds me of what running is all about. Are we mad?!
