Mountain running, its the zeitgeist don't you know
Irish national daily the Irish Times thinks so. As do the growing number of people that are coming into the sport. This excellent article could have been written about any one of the four UK nations too…
Unlike many sports profile pieces the article really gets under the skin of the sport, and by hunting down the likes of mountain-god John Lenihan for his opinions and views you know that the author has thought long and hard about this article.
This extract especially leads me to believe that the anonymous scribe ‘gets it’:
Nature, or a mountain, needs to be interacted with to properly experience it sometimes. There is something primal and invigorating, he argues, in scampering up and down a mountain, in the need to brace oneself against the elements, the cold and the wet, to weather blisters and bruises, and to possibly even get lost, either physically or in one’s thoughts.
