XC at the Winter Olympics?
I am not sure that we have an opinion either way in this subject, which has been raised a fair few times in the past. However, watching the Euro Cross at the weekend left me with the feeling that the racing on snow was pretty exciting…
Firstly, let it be said that XC racing in snowy conditions is nothing new and many a frozen course throughout the UK and Europe has graced local racing and major XC championships alike over the last few decades. But imagine the scenario:
- A ‘World Cup’ series of XC races in line with say the XC skiing World Cup or even the World Cup DH races
- These could also include night races, cow bells, schnitzels and all
- Perhaps some new technologies in terms of racing footwear, with full length spike plates, longer spikes at the front, shorter at the rear?
- Ultimately, XC racing at the Winter Olympics
Food for thought?
