Ricky Lightfoot at Styhead Pass

Next May sees High Terrain Events hold the first Scafell Pike Trail Marathon race – the highest trail race in England. Being the hardy type that organiser Ian Mulvey is he took to the route yesterday, in pretty hefty winter conditions on the tops…

Ricky on the ascent!

He was aided by Ricky Lightfoot, who ‘tagged along’ to test out the route, and Emily Roberts as they also produced these super shots of the route and some pretty stunning snow conditions.

The Scafell Pike Trail Marathon takes place on May 19th, 2013 and you can get involved and enter here.

As luck would have it the High Terrain crew weren’t the only ones in the Scafell vicinity on that day this week. Ultra and mountain runner Andy Mouncey was also up there in the winter conditions, with Lancaster man calling it an “extraordinary day”.

£25 for a fell race! Creeping commercialisation. Keep fell running for everyone. The Lakes classics are all about £5 – 10 and run by runners for runners, and not for profit. We should boycott these commercial races.

    Hi Peter

Why not do what normal people do and just carry on doing your £5 races without poisoning this one? It is not as though the £25 race is going to detract from the ones that you mention. And what is wrong with making a bit of money to cover your time and expenses? Or do you work for nothing as well?

Perhaps it would be best to move to Cuba then you could be happy that everyone was earning as little as you and that nobody was making any money.

I will be doing the 21k or marathon. £25 will hardly kill me.
