Brits head to Italy for the Trofeo Vanoni

Posted in At the Races by Matt Ward on Thu 18 Oct '12

Just part of the tremendous prize-list that the International Snowdon Race offers is a trip out to the historic mountain relay race that is the Trofeo Vanoni.

The town of Morbegno is twinned with Llanberis and becomes a festival of mountain running for this weekend of the year, with the running of the men’s relay, the 29th women’s race and the 35th junior event.

The 55th edition of the Trofeo Vanoni also acts as the Italian championship, so should ensure that plenty of Italian and international talent will be on show. Over 1000 runners from Italy, Slovenia, Wales, Scotland, England, Switzerland, Czech Republic are expected to take part.

From the Snowdon Race this summer, top finishers Murray Strain, Robbie Simpson and Rob Hope make up the crack ‘Snowdon Squad’ on the men’s side, and for the ladies Tessa Hill and Helen Fines will hope to bring home the gold too.
