The latest Collective Dreams episode from Salomon Running depicts South African Ryan Sandes on his continuing journey to the top of world trail running, as we get his inner-most thoughts on the Western States 100…

The 5 minute film by the African Attachment is a beautiful piece of work, also giving time to 2012 winner Tim Olson, Dylan Bowman and Bill Rose, and shows the huge community feel that is now being demonstrated by the elite in trail and ultra-trail running.

Interestingly Sandes tells the viewer that he was initially daunted by mountains, having cut his ultra teeth on the 4 Deserts races, and says that running 100 miles is about “competing against yourself” – to us this therefore shows that there is much more to come from the one they call ‘Hedgie’…

    Thanks for sharing the Ryan Sandes video! Salomon does such a wonderful job on their trail running videos! I couldn’t name anyone who produces better videos.

Mud, Sweat and Tears was dreamt up some time ago. I had returned to the sport of running (competitively) after around a 15 year layoff due to injury.
