If you are a fell runner who races in the UK you are literally spoilt for choice this next week or so. The options are endless, from long to short, and you have a full four days to get a race in as it’s Bank Holiday time…
It would be nigh-on impossible to preview the whole weekend here, but as ever there are some highlights and MST recommendations.
In the Lakes there are some beauties: Of course entries are closed for the beautiful Ennerdale Horseshoe, but it is still a highlight (for those who have a place at least), so what else. Helvellyn and the Dodds on Saturday, now that is a tough one, and then next Wednesday the stunning Blencathra race.
Meanwhile, over in Yorkshire one of the 3 peaks, Pen-y-Ghent, welcomes all this Saturday.
Carneddau organiser Ross Powell states: ‘Please note that this is a very tough race. Entrants must be fit, experienced fell runners and competent navigators.’, so take heed if you are heading over to Wales for this one.
There is also the European MR Champs trial in Sedbergh, which we shall preview on Mud, Sweat and Tears this Friday.
The weather looks set to change quite dramatically from the intense heat of last weekend, so make sure that your kit is at the ready for the hills. Full info all of the racing online from respective Welsh, English and Scottish associations here WFRA, FRA and the SHR sites.
