Tarawera Ultra is this weekend...
One of New Zealand’s big ultra races takes place this Saturday, as runners embark on the stunning trails from Rotorua to Kawerau for races of 60, 85 and 100km at the Vibram Tarawera Ultra...
Anton Krupicka will be there as part of the New Balance team, though he still seems to be having trouble with his shin injury and will no doubt be hiking a fair bit of the route.
The race is also a qualifier for the UTMB and the Western States 100, with runners passing through exotic forestry, native bush, lakes, waterfalls and following beautiful rivers. Most of the run is on single track trails or forestry roads, with buffet aid stations, drop bags, pacers, spot prizes and free hotpools at the finish.
You can follow this year’s race via the event Twitter and Facebook feeds and if any of you northern hemisphere types fancy a spring ultra in New Zealand, get this one pencilled in for 2013 now – it fills up fast!
