A happy ending for Hawker
Lizzy Hawker
After an eventful month or so in the Himalayas for Lizzy Hawker, Roger Henke reports that British ultra runner Lizzy Hawker has completed her personal trail goal of running from the Everest Base Camp to Kathmandu…
Following her abandonment of the Great Himalayan Trail, Hawker raced to third in the recent Everest Sky Race and now on Friday the diminutive UK runner completed the a distance of 320 km in 2 days, 23 hours and 25 minutes, a new record by some 3 hours.
Henke states:
Just back from the Kathmandu stadium, showered, and back at my desk. It’s not up to me to tell the story, I leave that to Lizzy. So by way of a concluding update I keep it to the essence: She ran from Everest Base Camp to Kathmandu in 71 hours and 25 minutes, a good 3 hours improvement on 2007!
Having been with her from Jiri, I can report that it certainly wasn’t easy! But she finished in good form and is fine.
