Tickner winning in Cardiff last season

It sounded like a walk in the park for Gemma Steel at yesterday’s opening meet of the 2011 / 12 McCain Cross Challenge in Bristol, though the Charnwood athlete called it a “bit of a slog”, Frank Ticker was an equally impressive winner of the men’s race…

Steel’s margin of victory was over 40 seconds by the end, but having had that gap after one lap it sounds like she was a very comfortable winner from Naomi Taschimowitz.

Gemma Steel - easy winner in Bristol

In the men’s race GB international Tickner was a strong winner ahead of Phil Wicks and the ever-improving Welsh U23 athlete Dewi Griffiths.

Have just realised Eastern/Central Europe seems the place for holding the European Cross Country Championships. This year is Slovenia, next year is Hungary, and the year after Serbia. Why? Does nobody else want to organise them or what?
