Weekend Round-Up
Carl Bell
Sterling work from @Daleside and the Fell Running Briefs digital news outlet this weekend with an excellent report on the Great Whernside race over in Kettlewell, which also incorporated the Yorkshire Champs…
Man of the moment Carl Bell won it, after ‘out sprinting’ Ian Holmes, the caveat on the out sprinting is that it was neck and neck until Holmsey took a tumble apparently. Still only 7 seconds separated the two at the finish, and Holmes could be content with the Yorkshire title.
Sarah Ridgway at Foel Fras 2010
Really good to see Sarah Ridgway storming the women’s race too for the win and 30th overall. The Eryri Harrier was a very clear winner from Jo Waites and Sharon Taylor and by all accounts less than half a minute outside of the course record. Full results now online at the FRA here
Staying in England Lee Athersmith and Helen Glover were winners at the Bronte Way, and at the Guisborough Three Tops there was a new record for Mike Fanning, winning from Charlie Stead and Matt Hayes in 65.21 for the 8 mile race in North Yorkshire.
Mike Fanning
North of the border at the new longer routed Meall a`Bhuachaille race, there was a clear win for Forres Harrier Graham Bartlett (1:09:14), ahead of Westerland’s Manny Gorman. Starting and finishing at Badaguish Outdoor Centre the race is now on “forest tracks and heather clad hills”, meaning that times set would be the new marks for the race. Megan Mowbray‘s time of 1:20:05 now also constitutes a course record time, as the HBT athlete was a minute and a half ahead of Carnethy’s Jacqui Higginbottom.
