The ‘Sandman’ Ryan Sandes wrote his name into US ultra trail running history today as he won the Leadville Trail 100. The South African was running his first ever 100 miler and lead from around the half-way mark to win by over 30 mins by the finish…
Anna Frost paces Ryan Sandes at Leadville
Sandes completed this super-tough 100 in a brilliant time of 16:46:56, the third fastest ever Leadville 100 time. He was paced by fellow Salomon International Anna Frost, Salomon US team boss Adam Chase and Salomon Canada’s Phil Villeneuve, and looked strong as he took the race on at the Winfield aid station around 50 miles – having sat back and let early leaders Tim Parr, Ryan Burch and Dylan Bowman set the pace.
Dylan Bowman
As Sandes took it on it was only Bowman who looked like challenging, and as they ran through Hope Pass and onto Fish Hatchery and the May Queen stations Sandes extended his advantage to take his maiden 100 win, which he adds to his historic 4 Deserts triumphs over the last few years.
Bowman crossed the line in 17:18:59 for an excellent Leadville 100 debut and the runners-up spot.
