Some of our newer readers might not remember this bit of news from September 2009. For a short space of time it blew the world of elite and international mountain running apart – a world MR champion had tested positive!
16 months on and the news that her suspension is now a ban has been delivered. Desco is still pleading her innocence, through an open letter to the corsainmontagna.it site.

Desco’s letter starts:
On the pronunciation of TNA sees me involved, I declare to accept the ruling, even if I new, endless suffering. I do so I must always be, even when it, personally, we punish them unfairly.
WADA have imposed a two-year suspension (minus 60 days) from 11/02/2011 to 28/08/2012.

Well we should wait until she has had chance to appeal before passing judgement but this certainly looks like bad news for our sport in general. At least she looks set to receive a ban.
