WMRA look to 2011, but what of the Grand Prix?
The 2011 WMRA GP looks uncertain
The World Mountain Running Association have announced plans for the 2011 season, and how championship racing will fit into the hectic mountain running calendar. However, their premium series known as the Grand Prix is by no means certain to go ahead…
This release offers detail on the many facets of national and world events, and demonstrates that the association is working hard to fullfil its backing of such events as the World Long Distance champs and the World Youth Challenge. However, the World MRA Grand Prix is a blue-riband series that celebrates season-long competition, and is also a breeding ground for newcomers to the sport of mountain running.
It is also a series that promotes the sport to a wider audience of say road and track runners, and is also a shop window for the elite aspect of the sport. It would be sad to see the demise of this series, and we’ll be watching with interest to see how the governing body sees the importance of this series to the world of mountain running and the wider promotion of the sport…

Indeed it would be sad if the Grand Prix series disappear, because it was my way to enjoy mountainrunning as a Dutchman. Every year I was looking forward to the series and the possibility of a new race entry.
