Super De Gasperi smashes Climbathon record
Tofol and Marco (right), Kinabalu 'winners'
On the weekend that saw Tofol Castener and Emanuela Brizio crowned World Skyrunning champions, the Kinabalu Climbathon glory belonged to Italy’s Marco De Gasperi and an amazing record assault…
(the race) was led from start to finish by De Gasperi – a truly incredible performance without challenge, establishing a new record in 2h33’56”. He also summited in a record time of 1h35’29”.
Saturday’s womens race was a much closer affair, with UK-based Kiwi Anna Frost racing to the summit well ahead of the opposition. But after the awesome display of power to the top the tricky descent proved to be Frosty’s downfall on this occasion, as she was passed by Spain’s Nuria Picas – a win would have seen Frost steal the title from Brizio, however after her first full season tackling skyrunning Anna told MST:
“I am pleased with that. The race went really well to the top, but my descent wasn’t quite good enough. 2010 has been a long year, but there have been some great highlights and I have really enjoyed having a go at the longer skyrunning races – I can’t wait for 2011, but for now its time for a rest!”

2010 has been another stellar year for you.
