Mr. Pikes Peak takes win number 7...
Carpenter (left) and Nelson accept the spoils at Pikes Peak
Carpenter wins at Pikes Peak, nothing dramatic in that headline then! The 44 year old won his 5th straight Pikes Peak Marathon yesterday from fellow Manitou Spring resident Daryn Parker. Keri Nelson was a big winner in the women’s race…
…and also a Doubler (meaning that she competed in both the Ascent and Marathon races). After an excellent 4th place finish in Saturday’s Ascent the Moab runner claimed a strong victory in the Marathon, winning by a massive 17 minutes from Italy’s Cecilia Mora.
Keri Nelson nearing the summit
In the men’s race Matt Carpenter was never really troubled other than by the high temps and high winds on the summit, he virtually led gun to tape taking yet another win on this famous mountain. With locals once again dominating the local knowledge and acclimatisation possibilities show that this is no race for the part-time residents and feint-hearted!
The start - and Carpenter is already up front...
