Davies and Fines win at wet Cader Idris
Andrew Davies
Today’s big Welsh fell race on Cader Idris went off in damp conditions, on this most historic of mountains close to Dollgellau, as Mid-Wales man Andrew Davies added his name to the long list of winners…
The organisers must have been cursing their luck on this Bank Holiday weekend, as they seem to have landed on the only guaranteed wet day – still a bit of rain never dampens the spirit of a fell runner and well over 200 souls took to the start.
The images going up did little to outline the conditions further up the mountain, as the early morning deluge made it very wet underfoot – but the race set off in pretty dry conditions.
However, the runners encountered some heavy rain on route as the race ascended and the descent images showed a different story as some runners returned in jackets and soaked kit.
Davies seemed to have got his Inter Counties cooking out of his system, hitting the front as the race started to hit the rough stuff, taking the win ahead of Ifan Richards who stormed through the field after a steady start. Helen Fines was a clear winner of the ladies race, running well inside the top 20 overall.

Thanks as ever to Fell Running Pictures man Al Tye, out there getting soaked with the best of ‘em, along with Gwynfor James at the start.
