The much-anticipated new Trail Running magazine has hit the newstands. Bagged with Trail mag, the new publication is aimed at plugging the muddy gap in the trail running market that the average running mag only scrapes at…

The 140-page mag has a wealth of diverse features, including hill running techniques, mountain marathon profiles, gear tests, Joss Naylor book reviews and expert analysis from the likes of top coach and adventure racer Marc Laithwaite.

MST’s initial reaction is certainly a favourable one, and credit must go to Bauer media for taking the trail running plunge by providing the legions of off-roaders out there something that has been lacking for some time. We also breathed a sigh of relief when we flicked through and quickly realised that the mag caters for a very broad church of abilities and also brands that it profiles – the trail shoe guide, for instance, features no fewer than 24 shoes from 24 brands!

There is also a pretty comprehensive events listing in there, alongside nutrition and training advice for the accomplished and beginner. Imagery is excellent, with a particularly nice feature on ‘Fell Running Fever’ by Feet in the Clouds man Richard Askwith.

The mag has a shelf-life of 4 months, which will make it an invaluable summer guide for the experienced fell runners and novice trail runners alike. In fact MST would go as far as to say that with some much info, testing and features in this first issue it will be a hard act to follow!

About MST

Mud, Sweat and Tears was dreamt up some time ago. I had returned to the sport of running (competitively) after around a 15 year layoff due to injury.
