Gebremariam sprinting to glory in Amman last year

Unlike in the women’s race, the mens event at this weekend’s World Cross Country Championships should be a wide-open race. 2009 champion Gebre Gebremariam will be back to defend his title in Poland…

Also with the cross-master Kenenisa Bekele once again absent, and Gerbremariam’s form faltering a little, there has probably not been a better opportunity for Kenya to take the men’s title in the last 10-15 years.

Ten championships have now passed since an individual Kenyan man won the long race at the World Cross Country Championships, the blue riband event of distance running
