World XC course looks interesting!
After the dust-bowl of Jordan in 2009 the 2010 world cross country returns to something like a purist sport as the annual circus hits Poland in a week or so. One of the most debated aspects of any world cross is the course…
…and this year I should think that the northern Europeans may be doing less debating than others!
If last weekend’s Polish champs are anything to go by the local Bydgoszcz running shops will be stocking up on 15 mm spikes ahead of what will most likely be a mud bath. Recent inclement weather and the heavy snow, followed by the thaw, has meant that the Myślęcinek Park course is now well and truly cut-up.
You have have to question the wisdom, however, of holding the Polish champs on the very same course some two weeks ahead of a world championship IAAF event, knowing that the fleet of local feet will churn it up a treat!
Whatever the weather we all know the east Africans can perform on anything, so don’t expect much more of a change of guard in the top 10 or 20 from recent years, certainly in the mens race. Full World XC previews ahead of the champs on MST next week…
