UK's best head for Birmingham

For many of the UK’s elite endurance athletes who like a bit of XC in their programme, it’s the big one this weekend. Many can only hope of making a dent in the front half of the World XC results sheet come late March…

However, making the selection for the UK team is a big target for the likes of Andy Vernon, Steph Twell, Freya Murray and Mike Skinner. European champ Hayley Yelling-Higham is also back after a little lay-off and will have something to say about Twell’s pre-race favouritism.

Yelling is XC queen once again

So, for many gaining that GB vest is the pinnacle of their winter racing, and out-performing the top Europeans is the goal. One advantage that they may hold come Poland is the that the course will likely be soggy, and the ambient temperature may be to the disliking of the East African contingent. We shall see…

Enough hypothesising from me, there is a super in-depth preview on UKA now. The full selection policy is here and the chosen few will get the UK team nod on Wednesday (17 March).
