Japanese World XC selection firms up over ‘Power’ and ‘Camel’ hills – Fukuoka Cross Country

The 24th Fukuoka International Cross Country – an IAAF XC Permit – took place today (27) in Fukuoka, Japan, and was basically a domestic affair as the hosts Japan selected their team ahead of next month’s 38th IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

Ritz out of the World XC champs

A disappointed Dathan Ritzenhein pulled out of next month’s IAAF World Country Championships on Saturday. Ritzenhein, who trains with the Nike-based Oregon Track Club Elite/Portland group coached by Alberto Salazar, has been unable to completely shake a lingering problem on the bottom of one his feet.

Mimi Belete winning in Diekirch

Nkuzimana and Mimi Belete the strongest in Diekirch

Commanding complete control, Onesphore Nkuzimana won the Diekirch Eurocross for the third time on Sunday (28 Feb) while Mimi Belete cruised to victory in the women’s contest.

The Burundian was the strongest in a duel against Najim El Qadi from Morocco, while Belete from Bahrain won for the second consecutive time after beating Maryline Pellen from France in a sprint finish.

World Cross team reports to Kigari camp Friday

The national Bydgoszcz World Cross team reports to residential training at Kigari Teachers Training College in Embu tomorrow to begin forging the country’s dreams of global domination on March 28 in Poland.

Leting’s acid test on road to Poland

The national cross country team pitches tent in Embu on Friday with the coaches keen on polishing and rectifying the mistakes witnessed during the national trials a week ago. David Leting will be in the driving seat as he seeks to cement his name among great coaches in Kenya’s athletics folklore.
