UK European trials are this weekend...
Liverpool hosts the 2009 SPAR European XC Championships trials this weekend, as the cream of UK cross country running hits Sefton Park. As well as being round two of the McCain Cross Challenge series the event doubles-up as the official trial race for the Euro champs in two weeks time.
With Mo Farah sitting this out the men’s race will be wide open. Expect names such as in-form Mike Skinner, Tom Russell, Scott Overall, Andy Vernon and Darren Deed to be near the front, with the likes of youngster Ricky Stevenson and former-international Andy Pearson snapping at their heals, this one should be a cracker.

It’s hard to see past Steph Twell in the women’s race, especially after her convincing win two weeks ago at the Gateshead opener of the UK’s premier cross country race series. However, Freya Murray is just back from one of Steve Jone’s altitude camps in Boulder, and along with Gemma Miles, Morag MacLaraty and Helen Clitheroe the girls will all be out to secure a place in the Dublin team and won’t be letting the Aldershot starlet have it all her own way…

So, if you fancy a day out in this weekend (that doesn’t include shopping) head up to Liverpool’s Sefton Park for what should be a cracking day of cross-country. Racing gets underway at 11am, with women’s and men’s races starting at 1.20pm and 2.00pm respectively.
