Dave Forrester on the country

Interesting to see UKA encouraging blogs from some of it’s talented youngsters. Also interesting to see prospective future champions loathe the discipline of cross country as much as their forefathers. The likes of Steve Ovett outwardly exclaimed their dislike for the muddy sport, yet equally realised that it was as essential part of their endurance base…

Welsh rising-star Joe Thomas says:

The decision to give indoors a miss this year found me in an unfamiliar place a few weeks back… Cross country, oh how I love it, NOT. My first cross country in 5 years was to be an emotional experience. I came 22nd in a field of over 300, but was left feeling less than inspired and will not be returning back out of my own choice anytime soon!

However, one commenter on his blog tells him to get on with it. We agree, and hope that many a young trackie will be pushed towards the hard winter yards and sapping cross country racing that will only increase endurance and steeliness, both physically and mentally.
