X-rated stuff from White and Swinburn
Natalie White
It was a repeat performance for GB international mountain runners and SSOT members Natalie White and Nick Swinburn at this weekend’s Saab Salomon Turbo X race in Sheffield – following the pair’s winning runs in Mugdock a fortnight earlier…
After a cool start to the day in Wharncliffe Woods the sun broke through by the time the 10a.m start had come round and the 400 starters were bathed in sunshine for the 10 miles of mud, bog, sand, rocks and tree roots that have become synonymous with these events.
Described by men’s runner-up Ricky Lightfoot as one of the “best courses I have run this year” the conditions were challenging even for the elite competitors on course. Swinburn spoke after the race stating that he had found this race even harder than his victory in Scotland earlier in the month, and that he had to work hard to keep Lightfoot, and third-placer John Heneghan at bay.
Anne Johnson - Calder Valley
White has no such problems in the women’s event, winning by two and a half minutes from Calder Valley’s Anne Johnson, with third place going to Laura Lombard.
Videos, photos and runner reactions will start to appear on the saabsalomontrails site over the coming days, full results of the race can be found here
